Pray that I get to meet/see a student that I mentor again. His mom cancelled our sessions b/c we finished homework early and stopped to see his cousin at football practice. My mentee was going through a very tough week and has been dealing with a lot of mental health issues. Though I did sneak behind his moms back and told him to delete the text messages that talked about us going to see his cousin at football practice. But I knew that he mom did not want him to do anything fun that week other than stay home and get yelled at. He was having suicidal thoughts and VERY unhappy. – I just wanted to put a smile on his face and bring some joy to his life in that moment and he needed to see his cousins. His mom is verbally abusive and controlling. And knowing that he was in a mental health crisis she wanted him to stay home as she would do nothing but yell at him, put her hands on him and tell him things that no child should hear. He is moving in with his grandmother this week. And I am the only male influence in his life and a constant, positive christian role model that he can rely on. He considers me not only an uncle but a father figure and his mom is trying to take that away from him to make his life miserable. He calls me everyday crying and begging me to come see him because our relationships means alot to him.
