—A Prayer for My Sister: Shelter and Strength on the Road

O Lord our refuge, our dwelling place in all generations (Psalm 90:1),
I lift up my sister—thy daughter—who journeyeth daily between labor and love,
Who resteth her body in humble shelter beneath the heavens,
Even as thou hast said, “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust” (Psalm 91:4).

Let thy angels encamp round about her, O God,
As it is written, “The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them” (Psalm 34:7).
Protect her flesh from weariness, her bones from affliction, her soul from despair.

Provide for my sister, dear Father, a place of peace and softness to lay her head—
As thou gavest rest unto thy beloved (Psalm 127:2).
Let not the car be her only cover, but open doors unto safety,
For “my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Renew her strength, Lord,
That she may mount up with wings as eagles (Isaiah 40:31),
And continue with joy to see her children and grandchildren,
Declaring thy goodness in the land of the living.

Grant her favor and tender mercies,
And draw her feet into places prepared,
For “the steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way” (Psalm 37:23).

In Jesus’ name we trust,
Amen.
