After hearing about today’s WGTS sticker stop at Zion Church in Greenbelt on the radio—and receiving a notification through the app—I felt led to stop by and pray with Ken and the promo team. I asked for prayer regarding an ongoing situation involving Eleanor Roosevelt High School officials in Greenbelt, who, in 2020, transitioned my then 14-year-old without my knowledge or consent. This was followed by their partnership with Kaiser Permanente, acting as secondary insurance to CareFirst under court order, to disregard multiple medical recommendations for eating disorder treatment and a related 504 plan. Their militant misguided belief was that identifying as a boy out of the blue (while also denying legally mandated social skills training for autism traits) would resolve abnormal weight loss—a theory that has long been discredited.
When I raised legitimate concerns about red flags for grooming, my faith identity was weaponized to dismiss my concerns as stemming from religious extremism or transphobic or linked to the Q conspiracy theories. There’s much more to the story, but I’ll leave it there for now.
What felt like a breakthrough today was telling Kimberly (also known as Cole) that I attended the sticker stop and picked up some WGTS pens, pencils, chip clips, and other goodies. To my surprise, she said she would like them somewhat enthusiastically and offered to "trade" them for a high school graduation ticket for me. A couple of years ago, after another sticker stop in Silver Spring following an oncology appointment, Ken and the team put together a bag of gifts for her. She accepted those too, though with a bit less enthusiasm.
Thank you for these sticker stops and for the opportunity to pray. While we’re still in need of many miracles, this small sign of openness was a blessing and a reminder that God is still working. Please pass my thanks to Ken and the promo crew!
